Fatma Nabil made history yesterday as the first woman on Egyptian state television to read the news while wearing a veil. The broadcast symbolises the profound change under way in Egyptian society following the election of the Muslim Brotherhood in June. Hosni Mubarak’s secular dictatorship had banned newsreaders from wearing the hijab.
