The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Seven’s night, again. In a replay of Tuesday and Wednesday nights The X Factor pumped up Seven, Nine struggled as The Farmer Wants a Wife slid badly, but Big Brother rallied. Nine managed second, the ABC third and Ten fourth, again.
Tonight: The AFL and NRL Footy Shows on Nine and Ten are in finals mode from tonight. Rake returns to ABC 1 for the second series as does Lowdown at 9.30pm. Ten has nothing much else. Nine has Big Brother and Big Brother: Confidential. 7TWO has Lewis (the repeat). Seven has Better Homes and Gardens in AFL markets at 7.30pm and another Mighty Ships PR confection in NRL markets and then Criminal Minds at 8.30pm to reunite the network. SBS has Destination Flavour about Australia and yet another British food and climate program of four parts.

The Losers: The Farmer Wants a Wife, 784,000 at 8.30pm (and 1.148 million nationally, as it slips down the regional Top 10). Not good enough for Nine. Around 240,000 people watching Big Brother went elsewhere last night rather than stay and watch The Farmer Wants a Wife. That is a crippling turn-off and the format is on its last legs.
Puberty Blues on Ten at 8.30pm, 728,000 and 959,000 nationally. It did well in viewers under 40, but from what I watched last night, it is predictable and so old fashioned. Dallas, slipped back to 10pm by a reticent Nine and had just 206,000 viewers and 292,000 nationally. Another confirmed flop.
Metro News & CA: Nine News and A Current Affair won Melbourne solidly, but Seven news won Sydney by 58,000, one of its biggest nightly wins for quite a few months. Seven won Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The Perth win was by 126,000 people. Today Tonight won Sydney by 77,000, another big margin, and won Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
