The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Just three programs in metro markets with a million or more viewers: all news broadcasts, which again tells us the audience found the rest of the night’s offering pretty lame and boring.

Except for Seven’s Brynne: My Bedazzled Life, which was everything it promised to be: crass, tragic, appalling with that big question in the back of your mind: “Why is she doing this?” Her husband, Geoffrey Edelsten, you can understand allowing cameras to follow him and his wife. He’s always had a huge ego and been an exhibitionist. But that question remains, “why?” It was banal and boring. The solipsism on display reminded me of Being Lara Bingle on Ten (she’s another self-promoter that forgot to ask the most basic question, “why”?). Brynne is a contender with the Bingle bungle and The Shire for worst TV program of the year.

It averaged 930,000 metro and 1.34 million national viewers. Beauty and the Geek Australia returned with 892,000 metro and 1.28 million national viewers for the 90 minutes from 8.30pm.

Rake on ABC 1 averaged 794,000 metro and 1.084 million national viewers.

Seven’s Home and Away with 906,000 metro viewers (and 1.36 million nationally) easily accounted for Nine’s Big Brother, which recorded a low 790,000 metro viewers (1.081 million nationally) for the ordinary program from 7pm, and a reasonable metro audience of 806,000 for the Confidential rubbish at 8pm (but only 1.003 million nationally, or less than 200,000 in regional markets).

Tonight: Better Homes and Gardens on Seven. Big Brother on Nine. Scott and Bailey on ABC 1. Good night the rest. Oh, Australia plays the Windies in the Twenty20 tip-and-run World Cup semi on Fox Sports late tonight. Check your guides. Car race stuff on Seven (that means summer is on the way, cricket, Christmas and then the footy season!).

Saturday: Pass, well, maybe, Dr Who on ABC 1 and Boardwalk Empire on SBS. There’s a Morse repeat on 7TWO. Car race stuff on Seven for much of the day.

Sunday: The morning chats, and that car race all day on Seven from the well-known mount in central NSW. At night, Sunday Night on Seven. The Julian Assange telemovie on Ten. 60 Minutes and Big Brother and House Husbands on Nine. Great Southern Land and the final Call The Midwife on ABC 1. The Twenty20 tip-and-run final is played tonight in Sri Lanka.
