The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Seven, easily. Ten moved back to a weak third. Nine wasn’t much better. The night was completely dominated by The X Factor results episode which had more than 1.6 million metro and over 2.4 million national viewers.

Winners & Losers did well straight after with more than 1.15 million metro and over 1.6 million national viewers. But the drop off more than 800,000 viewers from The X Factor to W&L was a bit of an eye opener.

Seven News had a “better” night in Melbourne with its audience up to 245,000. But that was 165,000 behind Nine News, which is really a thrashing. The 7pm ABC1 News eased back from its strong Monday night outing to average 354,000 (387,000 on Monday) which was still a lot better than Seven’s effort. Nine News returned to the winning list in Sydney with a 337,000 to 265,000 victory over Seven, or a 72,000 margin. Comprehensive. Today Tonight again faded to less than a million metro viewers. In Melbourne, A Current Affair won by a massive 197,000 viewers, 414,000 to just 217,000. That’s a shame, not a game.

Nationally Seven News won the night because it was stronger in regional markets than Nine News. But that didn’t help Today Tonight which was easily beaten by ACA nationally and in the regions.

Nine’s fresh episode of The Big Bang Theory averaged 1.008 million metro and 1.36 million national viewers. OK, but nowhere near the ratings giant it used to be. Familiarity or down loading?

Tonight: ABC1 has Gruen Planet and The Chasers put their shoulders to The Hamster Wheel for yet another turn. Nine has Big Brother. Ten has The Good Wife. Seven has Surveillance Ozand Criminal Minds.

Terrible, worse than the dodgy Two and A Half Men it replaced. Viewers have this one nailed down.Metro News & CA: Nine News and ACA had a strong night.

Metro FTA: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 34.7% from Nine (3) on 24.7%, Ten (3) was third with 17.8%, the ABC (4) was next with 15.5% and SBS (2) was on 6.4%. Seven leads the week with 31.8% from Nine on 26.7%, the ABC on 19.4%, Ten on 17.1% and SBS with 4.9%. Main Channels: Seven won easily with a share of 27.1% from Nine on 18.9%, Ten on 12.6%, ABC 1 on 12.0% and SBS ONE on 4.7%. Seven leads the week with 24.2% from Nine on 19.9%, ABC 1 on 15.1% and Ten on 11.3%.

Metro Digital: 7TWO won with 3.8% from 7mate on 3.7%, Gem on 2.9%, FO on 2.8%, Eleven on 2.7%, ABC 2 and ONE on 2.5% each, SBS TWO on 1.7%,  ABC 3 on 1.3% and News 24 on 0.7%. The 10 digital channels had a total FTA viewing share last night of 24.6%. 7TWO leads the week with 4.3% from GO on 3.6%, 7mate on 3.3%, Gem on 3.2% and ONE on 3.1%.

Metro including Pay TV: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 29.0% from Nine (3) on 20.7%, Ten (3) was third with 14.9%, the ABC (4) was next with 13.8% and SBS (2) was on 5.4%. The 15 FTA channels had a total share last night of 85.9%. The 10 digital channels had a total share of  20.7%, the five main channels, 65.2%. the 200 plus channels on Foxtel gave Pay TV a share of 14.1% last night.

The top five pay TV channels were:

  1. Fox 8 — 3.0%
  2. TV 1 — 2.6%.
  3. A&E, LifeStyle — 1.9%.
  4. Fox Classics — 1.8%.
  5. Disney Jr. — 1.5%.

The five most-watched programs on pay TV were:

Regional: Prime/7Qld (3 channels) won with a share of 37.4% from WIN/NBN (3) on 23.3%, SC Ten (3) was third with 18.0%, the ABC (4) was next with 15.7% and SBS (2) was on 5.6%. Prime/7Qld won the main channels with 27.3% from WIN/NBN on 16.4%, ABC 1 was on 10.7%. The digitals were won by 7mate with 5.4%, from 7TWO on 4.7% and Gem on 3.8%. The 10 digital channels had an FTA share last night of a high 29.0%. Prime/7Qld leads the week with 34.7%, from WIN/NBN on 26.0%, the ABC on 18.4% and SC Ten on 16.4%.

The five most-watched programs in regional markets were:

  2. Seven News — 516,000.
  3. Winners & Losers — 508,000.
  4. A Current Affair — 495,000.
  5. Home and Away — 473,000.

Major Metro Markets: Seven won everywhere (overall and the main channels) and has the week won. Nine was second everywhere bar Perth where it was pushed back to third by, wait for it, the ABC. (Nine was very, very weak in Perth, Ten and Nine were a distant third in the main channels in Perth.). Ten was third in Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. 7TWO won Melbourne and Brisbane, 7mate won Adelaide and Perth and Gem won Sydney. Seven leads the week everywhere. The ABC is third after Nine in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide and second in Perth with Nine third. Ten is third in Brisbane.
