The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Seven’s night as My Kitchen Rules shook off Monday’s dip and helped extend Seven’s lead in the week so far. Seven was also the big winner in regional markets. Ten has a better night, although MasterChef: The Professionals was again weak and should really follow its own rules and be eliminated — it’s terminally dull. It had 611,000 national and 451,000 metro viewers. really, is that good enough?
MKR had more than 2.7 million national viewers and 1.9 million in metro markets. Packed to the Rafters had more than 2.1 million nationally and over 1.3 million in metro areas. The Block All Stars started in tough with close on 2 million nationally and over 1.3 million in metro areas. And that was the night.
Tonight: More MKR on Seven, more Block All Stars on Nine. Shaun Micallef is still Mad As Hell on ABC1 at 8pm and investigating murders with Kat Stewart on Mr and Mrs Murder at 8.30pm on Ten. Ten also has The Good Wife at 9.30pm. Nine starts Parade’s End at 8.30pm, a sort of reply to Downton Abbey‘s success on Seven.
The top 10 national programs (metro and regional combined):

The losers: Hmmm, MasterChef: The Professionals, of course, NCIS on Ten at 8.30pm, 655,000 in metro markets, beaten by the New Tricks repeat on ABC1 at the same time with 919,000. That tells us how much Ten viewers have deserted the network’s first-run programs for the other networks. That is like being roasted slowly on a low heat.
Metro news and current affairs: Nine News won Sydney and Melbourne, easily, Seven won the rest with a big win in Perth that dragged it in front of Nine News in metro markets. A Current Affair though had big wins in Sydney (42,000) and Melbourne (86,000), which got it home in front of Today Tonight in another battle of TV’s equivalent of the Somme.

Seven leads the week from Nine and the ABC everywhere bar Brisbane, where Ten is in third spot.
