Seven’s night, as forecast, in metro and regional markets, thanks to huge audiences for The X Factor results episode  (2.507 million national/ 1.637 million metro/ 807,000 regional viewers) from 7.30pm, and then The Blacklist (1.929 million national/ 1.297 million metro/ 632,000 regional viewers). The Blacklist was down from the debut, but still very solid. Seven won 25 to 54s, but Nine got close. Seven’s Sunrise opened the week with a big win in metro markets over Today as stories about the tension at the Nine Breakfast program spread. Nine News won Sydney and Melbourne, again.

Nine was weak — The Big Bang Theory worked with more than 1.522 million national viewers, over a 1.05 million metro viewers and 460,000 viewers in the regional markets for both episodes. Big Brother averaged 1.194 million national/ 856,000 metro/ 338,000 regional viewers, which OK, but not great. Ten was just weak, even though its supposed to be doing better than a year ago, it is very unconvincing, especially in regional markets (as well as Adelaide and Brisbane last night).

ABC1 was solid with its usual line up of news and current affairs. Australian Story again stood out with 1.469 million national/1.003 million metro/ 466,000 regional viewers with a nice update of the Maggie MacKellar story from 2011 that took the original report further.

Updates: Ten announced this morning that its second venture in breakfast/morning TV in a year will start on Monday November 4 with Ten Eyewitness News Early, Wake Up, Studio 10 and Ten Eyewitness News Morning all starting. Seeing the Melbourne Cup is on the next day and the important Reserve Bank meeting is also on November 5, will anyone outside of the TV and media industry notice?
