Nine’s night in metro markets, Seven’s in the regions as the national audience split along program lines — House Rules and The Voice. It was also a good night for Nine’s 6pm News in Sydney and Melbourne.

A repeat of Sunday night’s episode of House Husbands by Nine gathered 684,000 national and 538,000 metro viewers and the solid wins by the 6pm news in Sydney and Melbourne proved the difference last night,  helping Nine overcome Seven. The Voice was well and truly whacked again by House Rules — 475,000 was the winning margin nationally for the Seven program as regional viewers again strongly supported it. House Rules had 2.358 million national/ 1.472 million metro/ 886,000 regional viewers, while The Voice had 1.883 million national/ 1.334 million metro/ 539,000 regional viewers. Although there was a 130,000-plus margin in the metros, it was the 347,000 margin in regional markets that gave House Rules the real push last night, as the regions did on Sunday nights and many other nights this season.

At 6pm Nine News had a winning margin of 129,000 over Seven News in Sydney and a margin on 140,000 in Melbourne. Seven News won Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. But in the morning Seven’s Sunrise with 336,000 easily beat Nine’s Today with 287,000 (another sub 300,000 audience for Nine’s morning flagship). Seven’s Wimbledon tennis coverage had 312,000 viewers on 7TWo nationally from 8.30 to 11.40pm. From 11.40pm to the end of ratings at 2am, an average 120,000 watched on Seven’s main channel.
