Seven’s night in metro markets and regional markets. In fact, A Place To Call Home finally cracked the million dollar mark in metro markets on its final outing last night. Regional viewers have always been stronger supports of the program, but Seven, like its commercial rivals, is more driven by the ratings in the five metro markets than how regional viewers support their programs. A Place To Call Home had 1.696 million national/ 1.049 million metro/ 647,000 regional viewers. The proportion of regional to metro viewers for the program was higher than normal. Regional viewers are also stronger supporters of Seven’s Sunday Night which last night had 1.913 million national/ 1.165 million metro/ 748,000 regional viewers and was the most-watched program in regional markets.

Seven’s The X Factor returned to our screens with OK figures — at 1.226 million, its metro audience was 400,000 under last year’s figure of just over 1.633 million. Nationally, it was down more than half a million at 1.885 million viewers on the 2.472 million for the debut episode in 2013. The regional audience was a still solid 659,000, but that was also well under the very strong 839,000 in 2013. However, The X Factor did well enough last night to further weaken the audience for Nine’s Kids version of The Voice. It had 1.655 million national/ 1.150 million metro/ 505,000 regional viewers last night down sharply (620,000 nationally) from its debut episode in June. Nine however won the 25 to 54 and 18 to 49 demographics. Ten’s Ian Thorpe interview did OK for the network at 6.30pm with 1.339 million national/ 981,000metro/ 358,000 regional viewers.

In the morning, ABC1’s Insiders topped the charts, and the 10am episode of The Bolt Report saw its audience leap above the figures for its 4pm repeat, which usually gets more viewers than the initial broadcast. Insiders had 509,000 national viewers on ABC1 and News 24 — well ahead of The Bolt Report’s 10am episode which had 204,000, while the 4pm repeat had 204,000.
