A night when Australia split into two camps about the Allison Baden-Clay murder in Brisbane. Those in the metros preferred Nine’s 60 Minutes and its uneasy interview with the mistress of Allison’s husband (and convicted murderer) Gerard Baden-Clay. It did far better than Seven’s Sunday Night (in the metros) which had letters from Allison Baden-Clay and spoke to some of her friends. The prurient interest of metro viewers was clear from the rating figures. 60 Minutes had 1.411 million metro viewers, Sunday Night, 873,000. In the regions, viewers preferred the victim’s story and as a result Sunday Night had 566,000 viewers to 60 Minutes’ 472,000 viewers. 60 Minutes boosted House Husbands which followed at 9pm with 1.635 million national/1.167 million metro/ 468,000 regional viewers.

The X Factor did well, with 2.013 million national/ 1.273 million metro/ 740,000 regional viewers, and easily finished in front of Nine’s The Voice Kids with 1.736 million metro/1.228 million metro/508,000 regional viewers. Ten’s MasterChef did OK as it starts the final week (last four) with 1.477 million national/ 1.076 million metro/ 486,000 regional viewers. But Nine and Ten dominated the key demographics last night.
