Yet another less-than-enthusing night for many TV viewers. Nine again won in metro and regional areas, followed by Seven, the ABC and Ten. Nine’s The Block Glasshouse was again the most watched program, though numbers were down on Sunday night’s splash. It had 1.763 million national/ 1.191 million metro/ 572,000 regional viewers.

Seven’s The X Factor had a weaker outing last night, but in keeping with levels of the past couple of weeks. It had 1.680 million national/ 1.057 million metro/ 623,000 regional viewers. Eagle eyed viewers would have noticed that the program was again boosted by very solid support from regional viewers, like so many Seven programs have been supported this year and last. Think Home and Away, Winners & Losers, and Sunday Night. But that support didn’t help A Place To Call Home which was axed this year by Seven (even though it was the second-most watched Australian dram after Home and Away) because it skewed old. The X Factor skews to younger viewers, so it will survive, unless the producer asks for a higher format fee.

On a relative basis, Nine’s The Block Glasshouse was the biggest loser last night, with an audience loss of nearly 600,000 viewers nationally from Sunday night’s room reveal. Seven’s The X Factor didn’t lose as many viewers for its results episode — around 90,000 nationally. But the it fell from weak to weaker, while The Block dropped from huge, to solid. When the audience doesn’t care all that much about the results of a program like The X Factor, as viewers did last night, then you know the program is boring its core supporters.

At 6pm Nine News started the week with a solid win. In Sydney it beat Seven News by 52,000 viewers — in Melbourne, the margin was 167,000 and in Brisbane 35,000. In the morning Sunrise had an easy win over Nine’s Today, 364,000 metro viewers to 299,000 for Today. Nationally, Sunrise won by a bigger margin, hitting a high 611,000 viewers.
