Nine’s night in metro and regional markets easily, even though Big Brother’s audience slipped, falling under the one million mark in the metros. Ten was third overall in both markets and third in the main channels in the regions, but not in the metros where ABC was third.
The Block Glasshouse saw its audience top the two million mark for the third night in a row this week with 2.026 million national/ 1.425 million metro/ 601,000 regional viewers and tops in all markets. Nine News also did well, beating Seven News in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Big Brother saw its audience fall to 1.296 million national/ 924,000 metro/ 373,000 regional viewers. It deserved a bigger fall, even though the housies were still being revealed. 7.30 lost ground from Monday night’s Homecoming for Leigh Sales — it averaged 1.075 million national, down more than 200,000 viewers on Monday night. But it still beat Bringing Sexy Back on Seven (hosted by Sunrise’s Sam Armytage) which had 1.035 million national viewers.
In the morning Sunrise’s metro audience dipped to 320,000 from 340,000 on Monday, but day two of Today’s US tour was less alluring for viewers and its audience fell to 291,000 from 305,000, which is not how viewers treated Sunrise’s trip last week. Based on what I have seen so far, Today’s US jaunt is just that, a trip to the Big Apple and a bit of work for the hosts and not much of interest for the audience. So far there’s been little sense of adventure. It’s as though Nine has simply transplanted Today from Willoughby to New York without much thought.
