A close night. Nine did slightly better than Seven in metro and regional markets and Ten and the ABC also did OK (closeish). Seven’s News was tops, boosted by having various AFL games as the lead in program in some markets — it had 2.1 million national viewers. My Kitchen Rules had 1.980 million national viewers (a touch weak on previous efforts). Nine News had more than 1.8 million and 60 Minutes more than 1.665 million, and The Block had over 1.7 million (but due to the now regular coding mistake by WIN, the right figure for the room reveal segment in the program last night was not separated for regional markets. It is likely the room reveal had more than 1.8 million viewers seeing it had 1.284 million metro viewers.
In the morning, Insiders again was the most watched program with 485,000 national viewers.
New program: The Nine Network is rushing to do a celebrity version of Big Brother to try and capitalise on the success of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here on Ten earlier this year. The idea isn’t a new one: Channel Five in the UK did a celebrity version of Big Brother earlier this year. It has been on Channel 4 in the UK as well and has a chequered history with mixed ratings. Nine is planning to show it in the second half of the year when the usual Big Brother was screened (which means Big Brother has been canned for this year, as suggested late last year).

Losers: The Gallipoli programs — Sunday Night on Seven (1.119 million national viewers) and Australia’s Great War Horse (969,000) — were both very good productions — but not as well supported by viewers as they should have been. The first part of Deadline Gallipoli on showcase last night (The Keith Murdoch role in the campaign) — 76,000.
