Nine won the metros fairly easily. Ten did well again thanks to running two episodes of Masterchef Australia. House Rules picked up a little bit, giving Seven some hope. But in the regionals, another big win by Seven as viewers in those market grabbed House Rules, Home and Away and rejected Masterchef and Reno Rumble. Only Nine News (460,000) could match the audiences in regional markets for Home and Away (466,000) and House Rules (436,000). Nine News won the metros and was the most watched program nationally, followed by Seven News. That tells us that the three “reality programs” haven’t grabbed audience attention like My Kitchen Rules did at the start of the year when it topped viewing levels on nearly every night it aired. That’s a sign of viewer fatigue, which will be very hard to shift in coming weeks.
Helping Nine win the night in the metros was an OK performance from The Footy Shows with 613,000 (only 264,000 in the regionals). Seven’s Downton Abbey managed 1.018 million national viewers 623,000 in the metros and 395,000 in the regionals.
