There’s life left in House Rules, or there was last night as Seven’s reno program had its first whole house reveal and beat Nine’s spoiler Reno Rumble in metro and regional markets. House Rules couldn’t quite bridge the gas with Masterchef Australia on Ten, but with the news doing well and Sunday Night on top of 60 Minutes and everything else bar the reality programs, Seven emerged the clear winner in metro and regional markets last night. Nine just pipped Ten for second place. In fact in the metro main channels, Nine was a weak third behind Ten in second and Seven way out in front. Is Reno Rumble crumbling already, or will it bounce back tonight?

Masterchef Australia had 1.525 million national viewers, House Rules had 1.507 million and Reno Rumble had 1.164 million — a big gap, but House Rules did have the whole house reveal which is the weekly highlight.

Seven won by 10 points in regional markets in Total People, and streeted the opposition in the main channels where ABC with a share of 12.1% just pipped Ten’s main channel with 12.0% — not a good look for Masterchef Australia.

In the morning, Laurie Oakes’ traditional interview with the treasurer of the day on the Weekend Today show lifted it to a win in the metros over Insiders and Weekend Sunrise. Oakes’ grilling of Joe Hockey was exquisite and a lesson for all the other interviewer wannabes on the ABC in particular.
