Well, Struggle Street ended with a bang last night. The audience tapered off, but not by as much as I thought. The national audience was 1.161 million (well under the record 1.3 million plus of the debut last week), but it was enough for SBS to finish in front of ABC in metro markets and in the regions. Seven though won the metro and regional markets as its trio of programs, Home and Away, House Rules and Criminal Minds all did well. Masterchef Australia again stood out as the best non-news program on the night in metro markets and second best nationally after Home and Away. But Masterchef Australia was again very weak in the regions where it just doesn’t resonate as strongly. Seven’s House Rules slipped past Nine’s Reno Rumble in metro markets and extended its lead in the regionals, to be ahead nationally by a handy 220,000 plus viewers.

ABC’s The Weakly (AKA The Weekly) at 8.30pm was a weakling, averaging 770,000 national viewers, made up of 570,000 metro and 200,000 regional viewers. Not very good or funny or insightful, but it could be so much better. And at 7.30 tonight there’s another version of The Weakly with the Budget Address in Reply from Federal Opposition leader, Bill Shorten.
