A mixed night. Thanks to a strong performance in Melbourne by Ten and Masterchef Australia (it was the most watched program in Melbourne last night) the night’s outcome was skewed. Seven won Total People in the metros and lost the main channels to Nine. Nine won Sydney (by a big margin), Ten won Melbourne and Seven won Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The absence of an afternoon AFL game hurt Seven in Melbourne. In the regionals, the now usual story — Seven won easily.
Masterchef Australia did well, thanks in part to its Melbourne performance and a stronger performance in the regions where it was watched by 410,000. House Rules did well, and again topped the regionals with 668,000 viewers. Poor old Reno Rumble is finishing tonight and last night Nine’s cobbled together effort could only attract 1.238 million national viewers, including 338,000 in the regions. This one won’t be back. The second and final part of The Secret River had just over a million national viewers on ABC in another solid effort.
