Cats, cats, cats, cats. That’s all you can read about this morning. So no cat jokes, just cat ratings. Cats Made You Laugh Out Loud also made Seven network executives cheer (and it is free Dine or Whiskas for the troops today after weeks of meetings, bowls of ratings gruel and scowls as Nine whacked Seven’s programming ideas). House Rules and Restaurant Revolution are now banished to the archives, felines are now flavour of the rating hour at Seven.

The cats had 1.567 million viewers across the country, which made it the most watched program last night with 917,000 in the metros and a very high 650,000 in the regions where viewers will watch almost anything seven serves up (well, not quite, they did abandon Restaurant Revolution because they recognised a dud, like urban viewers had). And regional viewers supported House Rules more strongly than did metro viewers and they give other programs such as My Kitchen Rules and Home and Away, plus Winners & Losers stronger support (as we saw last night) on a proportional basis than do metro viewers. The Cats were the icing on the Dine for Seven in regionals  last night — it’s why the network won by nine share points overall and five in the main channels.

The Hotplate on Nine did OK (beaten by the Cats) but the 1.132 million viewers nationally a reasonable effort. In the morning Sunrise reversed Monday’s loss to Today in the metros, 331,000 to 302,000.
