More of the same: Nine won the metros last night from Seven, Ten and the ABC, but in the regions it was Seven, Nine, the ABC and Ten. And nothing stood out at all. The Bachelor on Ten kept us amused with a confected storm out, so nothing to trouble viewers there (and 1.2 million viewers). Perhaps the stormee can become 2016’s The Bachelorette if she plays her cards right and follow in Sam Frost’s stilettos (She’s the first ‘ette this year). Utopia, on the ABC at 9pm was the sole exception. A rare beacon. It had 988,000 national viewers.
Seven’s Sunrise had another win in breakfast 356,000 to 306,000 for Nine’s Today, one of the larger margins of late. But Seven News was weak in the metros with 864,000 viewers, well behind Nine News on 1.106 million. And Home and Away’s metro weakness continued with just 729,000 viewers in the five major capitals. But strong support from the regions with 496,000 viewers lifted it to fourth nationally with 1.225 million viewers.
Did anyone watch last night’s ep of Morse on 7TWO? One of the better recent ones. But it featured an unlikely conjunction of British TV detectives. There was Inspector Morse of course (Endeavour to his mates). There was Lewis (Sergeant Lewis last night), Inspector/consultant Lewis in the series on 7TWO tonight. And one of the characters (and late murder victim) last night is now the new Inspector Barnaby in Midsomer Murders. And last night’s Morse featured the first appearance of the pathologist, Dr Hobson, who has continued into Lewis and is now the love interest of the said Lewis.Last night’s ep was set in 1995 (early mobiles), so that’s a 20 year involvement with the storyline.
