That is a Bollinger Moment, even in these days of bean counters reigning supreme, last night’s ratings performance by Seven deserves and old fashioned blow out because it was one of the more decisive nights of the year. Seven easily won the metros and the regions thanks to the return of The X Factor and the first part of the Peter Allen biopic. Nine straggled, Ten simply flopped as the return of The Biggest Loser Families finished a distant fourth in the 7.30-8.30pm timeslot, beaten even by Grand Designs on the ABC. Nine did better because of solid ratings for Gem and the final ODI between Australia and England which ended early after Australia thrashed the Poms.
In fact it was Seven first, daylight second and third, then Nine, then Ten which struggled. It was fourth in the regions overall and in the main channels and shared third overall in the metros and fell to fourth in the main channels. The X Factor had 2.258 million national viewers (and just over 1.5 million in the metros. The first part of the Peter Allen story had 2.050 million, including 1.333 million in the metros. They were first and second nationally respectively. The Biggest Loser was 10th nationally with 900,000 viewers — which is just enough. Vera on the ABC at 8.30pm had 905,000 and was ninth nationally and one of the week’s highlights. The first part of the Peter Allen story was top TV, next week’s second part should be better as the story widens and becomes more interesting. The weekend football was fabulous, tough and tight.
In the morning Insiders with 390,000 metro viewers (and 541,000 nationally) easily account for The Bolt Report (151,000, and 228,000 nationally) for the simple reason — you get discussion on Barrie Cassidy’s program, information and a bit of debate, instead of being told that the host is always right, as you get on The Bolt Report. The Bolt Report is looking more and more like an audition tape for Sky News.
