Winner: No Cold Feet at Seven. The old fav of Gen Xers (now much older, but no more wiser) did the job for Seven last night, winning its return to Seven at 8.40pm and winning its time slot with 921,000 national viewers. Number 10 nationally, so not bad for an old stager making a comeback after nearly decades ‘resting’ and while the world discovered Facebook, smartphones, sexting, on line infidelity, not to mention dating, medical advice, home deliveries, Amazon Uber and very different lives.

Disaster: Life in Pieces at Ten: 389,000 national viewers and just 271,000 of those in the metros at 7.30 pm? Disaster. Todd Sampson’s Body Hack — 698,000 nationally, including 486,000 in the metros.

On the surface, not good Ten, but not helped by the appalling figure for Life In Pieces. The schedule said series return. Today its series goodbye. Modern Family which followed Life In Pieces at 8pm had 446,000 viewers – 100,000 more than the disaster before it. Actually, looked at another way, Body Hack added nearly 200,000 viewers at 8.30pm and brought a little respectability to Ten’s night. Ten can’t afford to have its Tuesday night schedule destroyed as it was last night.

The Australia Japan World Cup Qualifier game on Nine’s Gem last night managed a respectable 462,000 national viewers and 227,000 on Fox Sports.

Sunrise with 310,000 beat Today in metro and national breakfast for a second morning this week. Studio 10 with 109,000 pipped Nine’s Today Extra with 107,000. The X Factor did OK for Seven with 1.312 million. The Block did better for Nine with 1.369 million nationally.

The top five programs in the regions were Seven News with 565,000, Home and Away with 505,000, The X Factor was on 478,000, Seven News/Today Tonight was on 468,000 and The Block was 5th with 416,000.

Overall a mixed night in the metros with Nine and Seven sharing the demos and the bragging rights – but in the regionals Seven was again a clear winner.

Tonight: Watch Deep Water on SBS, while Ten’s struggling Bachelorette faces a moment of truth so far as its audience is concerned tonight. Doctor Doctor is on Nine and the highlight.
