Seven won the metros narrowly in Total People as Nine won the main channels and scooped up the demos with The Block and Unreal Real Estate. Cold Feet cooled a little, but still did well. In the regions, Seven was a very big winner again. Cold Feet had 823,000 national viewers, down 921,000 for the debut a week ago. Metro viewers totalled 556,000, down from 612,000. Nostalgia and the early 90s are not that compelling.
The Block was the most watched non-news program with 1.408 million national viewers, with 1.045 million of those in the metros.
Nine News was again weak last night and that is starting to become more of a trend. Seven News won Sydney, Melbourne Adelaide and Perth and nationally. This is Nine’s biggest problem and once a leakage is underway, hauling back those lost viewers is a very tough task. Seven is still doing it three years or so after losing its way.
The most watched regional programs last night underlined Seven’s dominance. Seven News was tops with 589,000, followed by Home and Away with 477,000, Seven News/Today Tonight averaged 455,000, The X Factor averaged 431,000 and the 5.30pm part of The Chase Australia was fifth with 399,000.
The Bachelorette tonight and tomorrow night: will she pull the ejector seat lever, again? Bulk deals are better. There are five left and two have to go for the finals next week. Hard Quiz on ABC at 8pm, a spin-off from This Week with Charlie Pickering. The second episodes of Rosehaven and the new series of Upper Middle Bogan follow. The mind trembles.
