Nine’s night in the metros in total people and the main channels. Nine shared the demos with Ten, but Ten’s key programs, The Bachelorette and The Wrong Girl, while doing well, are not overwhelming performers because of the weakness of The Bachelorette, which is not a good look for advertisers. In the regions Seven won total people, Nine won the main channels as The Block maintained its dominance of non-news viewing. The Block had 1.408 million national viewers. Doctor Doctor impressed with a solid 1.281 million and it and The Block gave Nine a winning edge.

Seven just wasn’t in the game, except between 6 to 7pm were Nine’s News continues to drag the chain.

So far as Hard Quiz with Tom Gleeson: inoffensive and so far no hint of Randling or Tractor Monkeys, I hope. Rosehaven was inoffensive and Upper Middle Bogan is more of the same, as was The Bachelorette: Georgia Love just seems out of her depth in this particular pond – she is too clever and too intelligent, and it shows.

The ABC’s newbie, Hard Quiz had 893,000 national viewers, which is OK, Upper Middle Bogan had 772,000 and Rosehaven managed 753,000. The Bachelorette managed 799,000 nationally.

Still, only tonight and next week to go (and before that we have to summon our enthusiasm for the final episodes of Australian Survivor. No wonder Ten wrote down the value of its TV licences in the 2015-16 financial results out this morning.

In the regions, the top five programs were: Seven News with 560,000, Home and Away was on 460,000, Seven News/Today Tonight had 445,000, Doctor Doctor was fourth with 427,000 and Beach Cops on Seven had 403,000 people.
