An easy win to Seven nationally, in the metros and regionally — Nine ran out of top tier programs but Ten battled on and did better than on Monday. Nine’s Love Child continues to die. Tonight sees the even weaker (and far more appalling) Last Resort appear in Nine’s line up at 9 pm. In rating terms that is a well-named program, just as The Biggest Loser describes struggling Ten.

House Rules managed 1.76 million nationally, Masterchef, 1.22 million (a solid figure and much better than Monday night), and they were the stand outs. Seven’s First Dates averaged an OK 935,000 nationally, But Love Child’s 794,000 and 20 to 1 with 757,000 are poor. The first part of David Stratton’s three part series on his life in Australian films did 784,000 nationally, and deserved 300,000 more. In the regions, Seven News was tops with 698,000, House Rules was second with 680,000, Seven News/TT was 3rd with 573,000, then Home and Away with 516,000 and the 5.30pm bit of The Chase Australia was fifth with 454,000

Even though Seven did well last night, its Achilles is the performance of the 6pm to 7pm news hour on the East Coast (Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne) where Nine beat Seven easily.  That is starting to become a trend and should be a concern for Seven management. Nationally its a different story with Seven News’ hour clearly dominant and producing national wins every night (and national will be the name of the game if and when the audience reach limits are removed).
