On Erik Jensen
Gerard Henderson writes: Re: “Hendo, hoots, hollers, makes some howlers” (Monday)
It’s great to see that Guy Rundle, my favourite Marxist comedian and Brighton Grammar alumnus, is still monitoring my writing in The Weekend Australian and Media Watch Dog along with my occasional appearances on Insiders.
For the record, Comrade Rundle’s assertion that Erik Jensen is no longer editor of The Saturday Paper but is now, wait for it, only editor-in-chief is not accurate. Karen Middleton told me after Insiders last Sunday that Mr Jensen was actively involved in the editing of her article in the current edition of the paper. As for the suggestion that only Catholics believe that productivity increases can lead to increased wages — well that’s economics per courtesy of a Marxist comedian who learnt about Catholicism at Brighton Grammar all those years ago.
On the Iran nuclear deal
Joe Boswell writes: Re. “What is the Iran nuclear deal and why is Trump so huffy about it?” (Monday)
Charlie Lewis’s summary of the implications of Trump undermining the Iran nuclear deal omitted to mention the wider issue that Trump is also destroying any credibility of the USA when it tries to make any such deals with anyone else. Trump is sticking the knife in diplomacy and giving it a firm twist. North Korea, for one, will see this as (more) conclusive proof that any agreement with the USA is not worth the paper it’s written on and so developing a substantial independent nuclear weapons capability is more urgent than ever. One of these two countries is run by someone who is dangerously stupid and erratic, and it’s not North Korea.
