The People’s Panel

For the first time ever, Crikey‘s Peter Fray and Georgia Wilkins were joined by Crikey readers from different corners of Australia for their thoughts on Australian politics, climate change, and COVID-19.

United through their interest in no bullshit, real independent journalism, we put reader’s questions to John Donovan (JD) from Sydney, Annie Humphries from Brisbane, and John Barker from Perth.

They shared their experience of taking individual action on climate change, what their personal experience of the COVID-19 pandemic has been like, as well as the state of the federal government and looking to the next election.

There was a great community vibe as viewers watching live joined in the webinar chat, sharing supporting comments and feedback to what our panelists were saying.

We look forward to hosting another people’s panel again in the future.

Georgia Wilkins

Georgia is a senior reporter at Crikey. Previously Georgia has worked as a journalist in Australia and overseas, including six years as a reporter for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald covering corporate misconduct, multinational tax avoidance and wrongdoing at the big end of town.

Annie Humphries

Lead Support

Annie comes from Brisbane, Australia. She works for a trade union as the Lead Support, and she subscribes to Crikey because without independent media of the calibre of Crikey there is no vibrant democracy.

John Donovan

Managing Director

JD comes from Sydney. He is the Managing Director of an IT security company, and he subscribes to Crikey because he values independent journalism that is not only fearless, but often inspires him to go off and research issues in greater detail.

John Barker

Author, Retired Lecturer

John’s career included being a research physicist, senior bureaucrat, renewable energy consultant and innovation lecturer. In his retirement he has become a published photographer and climate change author and global traveller until he escaped from a Covid-infected cruise ship in March 2020.
