Alan Jones, in Sydney, and Eddie McGuire and Jon Faine, in Melbourne, were the big winners from the first radio ratings survey for 2010.

Jones lifted his share in the competitive Sydney breakfast market to a share of 20%, a rise of 1.4% from the last survey of 2009. He helped his station 2GB station (Macquarie Radio Network) (of which he is a part owner) to a rise of one percentage point in its share to 16.6%. He helped 2GB morning’s, Ray Hadley lift his share by a large 3.1 percentage points to 19.5%. In Melbourne, Eddie helped boost the ratings of the failing Triple M (Austereo) by 1.7 percentage points to 5.9%.

He helped the station’s share in breakfast jump from 4.3% to 5.8%. The big gains by these two overshadowed other movements of note in both markets.

In Sydney, Kyle and Jackie O saw their share in breakfast for 2 Day FM (Austereo) down to 11.4% from 12.5%. 2Day finished the survey with a share of 10.8, down 0.8% from the last survey of 2009. And in Melbourne 3AW’s (Fairfax Radio) Neil Mitchell lost audience with a fall of 1.9 to 14.0%, with the ABC 774’s John Faine just behind with 13.6% (up 1.8).

In Sydney, ABC radio 702 lost ground, with a fall of 0.5 to 10.5%. Adam Spencer, in breakfast, down 0.5 to 12.4% and Deb Cameron, in mornings, down 1.5 to 8.7% were notable losers. 702 evenings rose a handy 1.5 to 10.8%. 2GB won Sydney, with 702 second and Two Day FM third. Fairfax Radio’s 2UE shed 0.2 to 5.8. breakfast with John Stanley and Sandy Aloisi rode 0.7 to 6.7%.

In Melbourne, 3AW again won with 14.1%, down 0.3, from Fox FM, down 0.1 to 13.7, with 774 ABC local radio third with 12.3, up 0.8%. In breakfast, 3AW’s Ross Stevenson and John Burns lost 0.2 to 19.0. in Drive, Hamish and Andy lost 1.6 to finish with 21.0% in this survey.

3MP, where Andrew Bolt is heading (down to Mornington, or from home?) saw its share fall 0.6 to 2.4% in this survey. That’s a nice low base for he and Steve Price to work from after Macquarie and John Singleton do their deal.

Lachlan Murdoch’s DMG saw a big loss at Nova in Sydney, down 2.6 to 6.7 (Vega fell 0.5% to 3.1%) and in Melbourne, Nova lost 0.5% to 7.5 and Vega 1.0 to 3.7.

He also has his work cut out.
