ISCA welcomes the broad range of education expenses that are eligible for rebate under the Coalition’s Tax Rebate Policy. In particular, the independent school sector appreciates the Coalition’s inclusion of school fees and special education costs for children with learning difficulties under this policy. The continued growth of the independent sector is evidence that Australian families are increasingly prepared to dig deep into their own pockets and invest in the education of their children. Tax rebates are one way governments can support private contribution to school education. Private contribution now amounts to a significant proportion of Australia’s expenditure on school education. ISCA acknowledges that both major political parties have now announced tax rebate policies as they apply to education expenses.
