NSW Premier Morris Iemma has come out punching with his choice of Labor’s slogan for the upcoming state election — ”More to do but … we’re heading in the right direction”. A bold, pithy declaration of steely intent, but has there ever been a worse election slogan? Certainly not these:

”Sunflowers die in November” — Franklin D Roosevelt (1936)
“A chicken in every pot. A car in every garage” — Herbert Hoover (1928)
”I like Ike” — Dwight D Eisenhower (1952)
”Never had it so good” — Harold Macmillan (1957)
”A time for greatness” — John F Kennedy (1960)
“Are you better off than you were four years ago?” — Ronald Reagan (1980)
”Because Britain Deserves Better” — British Labour (1997)
”Labour isn’t working” — British Conservative Party (1998)
”It’s Time” — Gough Whitlam (1972)
”Shame Fraser Shame” — Gough Whitlam (1975)
”Turn on the Lights” — federal Liberals (1975)
”Wran’s our man” — NSW Labor (1978)
”Joh for PM” — a strange moment (1987)
”There are questions that have to be answered” — Liberals (1990)
”The Things that Matter” — Liberals (1994)
”Let’s get Victoria moving again” — Victorian Liberals (2006)
At least Morris Iemma got the first three words right.
