So who was right? Did Ray Martin go to Rene Rivkin’s funeral in Sydney on Friday, or did he do an interview at the ABC instead?

Reports in The Weekend Australiansaid he was at the funeral along with clients of Rivkin’s broking services, Graham Richardson and Trevor Kennedy. The Sydney Sun Herald’s Gossip columnist Annette Sharp also had Ray there.

But hang on, elsewhere in the Sun Herald was a story by veteran reporter Alex Mitchell saying our Ray wasn’t at Rene’s goodbye. He was at the ABC on Friday recording an interview with the ABC’s Monica Attard that was broadcast on Sunday night at 9pm.

Meanwhile Ros Reines, Sunday Telegraph gossiper and one time Rivkin biographer was not at her column in the paper Sunday. She was “on leave” after disclosing the previous Sunday that Rivkin and wife Gail had separated and he was living with his mother. Rivkin took his life on the Sunday afternoon.

According to Sydney newspaper reports last week, Rivkin’s mouth was taped over and he had a plastic bag over his head, so he was determined to go. That raises the question, a faint one, of whether anyone else was involved. Police are still completing a report for the coroner.
