The Winners: The last episode in the series of Miss Marple on the ABC at 8.30pm averaged 916,000 and easily accounted for The Mentalist on Nine — which had 897,000 viewers at 8.30pm and the Bones repeat on Seven in the same slot with 898,000.

  1. Seven News (6pm)– 1.263 million
  2. Nine News (6pm) — 1.198 million
  3. 60 Minutes (Nine) (7.30pm) — 1.154 million
  4. The Force (Seven) (8pm) — 1.075 million
  5. Border Security (Seven) (7.30pm) — 1.042 million

The Losers: Viewers of News 24 yesterday afternoon. We had a parade of old programs, repeats and replays instead of rolling coverage of the situation in Japan which was developing quickly, especially as more search and rescue happened and the problems at several nuclear reactors continued to emerge. Very poor effort.

News & CA: Nine News won Sydney and Melbourne, Seven won the rest, especially Brisbane where the margin was a large 135,000. Nine brought back ACA at 6.30pm for coverage of the Japanese quake and tsunami story, but the real reason was to pre-empt the promoted story from TT which says it has a big interview tonight in the Robert Hughes’ sexual harassment and abuse allegations.

Sunday Night on Seven had a great story on the Walsh Street police shootings in Melbourne more than two decades ago, but their coverage of the Japanese quake story was lightweight. 60 Minutes managed to make theirs look far better. 60 Minutes easily won.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven, again. Main channels and digital channels for the 5th week in a row. On the face of it a good night for Seven and Nine, which it was, in all people. The real battle was between Nine and Ten.

Ten said that with Modern Family (930,000), The Biggest Loser (963,000), Bondi Rescue (903,000) and Hawaii Five 0 (641,000) it won the 16 to 39, 18 to 49 and 25 to 54 demos. Ten had their report out well before 10am, so they must have been smiling. These winning reports have been few and far between in recent weeks from the network.

Last night’s dramatic A League soccer Grand Final from Brisbane averaged around 182,000 on Fox Sports 3 and 1. The biggest audience was in Brisbane where nearly 93,000 people watched.

TONIGHT: We have the wall to wall current affairs and news programs of the ABC. Four Corners and Q&A tonight, with the latter featuring Prime Minister Gillard. Ten has not very much, perhaps The 7pm Project and Glee. Seven has My Kitchen Rules and Conviction Kitchen. Nine has This is Your Life at 8.30pm.
