The Losers: Nine again. Ten tried, but not in the race.

News & CA: Nine News won Sydney and Brisbane over Seven which won the rest. ACA won the battle in Sydney, TT won the battle in the rest. But ACA‘s national audience fell well under a million viewers because it continues to be very, very weak in Adelaide and Perth which are black holes for the program.

Today won the battle of the mornings over Sunrise.

For the first time Ten’s 6.30pm News had more viewers (358,000) than did 6PM With George Negus (351,000). Rumours persist that Ten will chop one next week.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Nine’s Top Gear had a very silly segment where our intrepid three presenters drove through poor black neighbourhoods in America (and other places) in a Ferrari, a Porsche and a top of the line Mercedes sports car. Male viewers watched it, in the minority. Just 771,000 people tuned in to Nine from 8.30pm to 10pm.

Females were watching Seven’s debuting Winners & Losers, which made Seven the winner on the night and Nine a very distant loser. The 1.611 million for the first episode of this program was very solid and confirmed that female viewers run TV viewing most nights in this country.

In regional areas, Winners & Losers averaged 668,000 viewers and topped all the demos as well. So approaching 2.3 million viewers nationally first up. And this time next week we will see how many people taped the program for later replay.

Melbourne had the biggest overall audience for Winners & Losers, 570,000, with hardly any turn off. The audiences in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth were surprisingly strong for much of the hour.

TONIGHT: No Laid, but Hungry Beast is there instead at 9.30pm for the ABC, after Adam Hills in Gordon St Tonight at 8.30pm.

Seven has My Kitchen Rules and it also has Criminal Minds. City Homicide might be worth a look or recording at 9.30pm.

Ten has The 7pm Project and then The Biggest Loser. SBS has Inspector Rex in repeat. Nine has The Farmer Wants a Wife and RPA – Where Are They Now?. Nine’s AFL Footy Show is on tonight in southern markets from 9.30pm because the AFL season starts on Ten tomorrow night. Lucky viewers in Sydney will see it at 11.30pm tonight.
