News & CA: Nine News won Sydney comfortably and Brisbane narrowly, and lost Melbourne by a mile. ACA won Sydney, lost the rest, including a big loss in Melbourne. 6.30 With George Negus a new high of 474,000, its previous was the 440,000 for the first outing last Monday night.
In the morning, Sunrise surprised by beating Today by 144,000 viewers. Today‘s audience slumped sharply on last week, Sunrise‘s rose. The culprit? The final round of the Masters Golf on Ten and One with three Australians in contention, averaged 115,000 for Ten and 71,000 for ONE (186,000 all told). It didn’t impact Sunrise, but hurt Today.

Major Markets: Seven won from Nine and Ten overall and in the main channels in every market bar Sydney where the ABC pushed Ten out of third in both. The ABC’s Sydney based news and current affairs programs were more watchable in this market last night than was Ten. 7TWO won Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and drew Brisbane with 7mate. Seven leads the week everywhere from Nine and Ten. It’s not close and Seven will win the week easily after Nine and Ten threw in the towel last night. Nine repeats the dose tonight.
(All shares on the basis of combined overnight 6 pm to midnight All People)
Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven, like a broken record, again, very easily with daylight second and third. Not good for viewers when Ten and Nine program rubbish or repeats. Ten’s move to drop Undercover Boss, again from Monday nights and replace it with House at 8.30pm and slot The Biggest Loser: Families into 7.30pm was not a success. Undercover Boss may have been a temporary fix last week, but it wasn’t a good look, nor was last night. Ten actually did worse last night than a week ago.
Four Corners and Media Watch ran second behind Seven from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Nine and Ten were behind. Q&A and the closing five minutes or so of Media Watch won the 9.30pm to 10.30pm slot beating all the commercials.
TONIGHT: Seven has another My Kitchen Rules, plus Winners & Losers. Ten has NCIS and Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation, both of which are fresh, according to the program guides. From 7pm Nine has three hours of repeats of The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men and Top Gear. In fact Nine’s main channel line up tonight is very similar to some nights on its GO digital multi-channel. Contemptuous TV. The ABC has Foreign Correspondent, SBS has Insight. At least they are trying.
