The Winners: A soft night, except for Seven, although Winners & Losers still is not solid, especially in Sydney. It’s getting a bit one dimensional, but of course creamed the demos.

News & CA: That audience Lateline Business’s replay on ABC 1 was close to the lowest for years. Nine News and ACA had big wins in Sydney, but lost the rest, especially Melbourne. 6.30 With George Negus remained above 400,000 viewers for the second night in a row. 700,000 people watched the program and the repeat last night. That’s around 70% of ACA’s national single broadcast audience. Today’s audience recovered past the 300,000 mark from Monday’s big loss.

That’s a total FTA viewing share in prime time of 22.5%. GO leads the week with 4.2% from 7TWO on 24.5% and 7mate on 3.9%.
  • Pay TV: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 27.8%, from Ten (3) on 20.3%, Nine (3) was on 19.7%, Pay TV (100 plus channels) finished with 12.6% (which was the lowest for months), the ABC (4) was on 12.1% and SBS ended with 4.5%. The 15 FTA channels shared a total of 87.4% of prime time viewing last night, made up of 19.0% for the digitals and 68.4% for the five main channels.
  • Regional: Prime/7Qld (3 channels) won with a share of 34.9%, from WIN/NBN (3) on 24.4%, SC Ten (3) on 22.9%, the ABC (4) was on 12.7% and SBS (2) finished with 5.2%. Major Markets: Seven won everywhere overall and the main channels. Ten was second in both in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth and second in the main channels in Brisbane and Adelaide. Nine was second overall in both because of the performance of GO, which won everywhere bar Perth where 7mate was dominant. Seven leads the week from Nine and Ten in every market.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven by a mile, with second and third well behind daylight. Nine’s repeatathon copped the treatment it deserved, third place behind Ten that tried. It’s interesting that Winners & Losers is nowhere near as interesting for Sydney viewers: it averaged 318,000 viewers, which made it the 5th most popular program in that market. In Melbourne 492,000 watched (because it is based there). That made it the second most viewed program in that market and nationally. This weakness in Sydney is dragging down its national audience.

TONIGHT: Another weak night for Nine with the highlight the adults episode of Two and a Half Men at 8.30pm, followed by a repeat.

RPA – Where Are They Now? at 9.30pm won’t have a good lead-in. Seven milks My Kitchen Rules again tonight for the last night, a 90 minute episode for the final. It starts a new US cop series Detroit 1-8-7 at 9pm. Watch under advisement would be the appropriate Americanism. The ABC has Hungry Beast at 9.30pm, after another Adam Hills in Gordon St Tonight. Ten has The Biggest Loser: Families after The 7pm Project. SBS’s highlight is the repeat of Inspector Rex at 7.30pm.
