The Winners: Offspring at 9pm on Ten, 982,000, almost a 50% drop off from MasterChef.

Seven won All People, Ten’s MasterChef had its best night of the year. Audiences were higher until late into the evening thanks to the holiday, but they were lower on Sunday night when there would have been more reason to stay up and sleep in yesterday morning. Ten won the demos.

News & CA: Being a holiday, Lateline Business had the night off. Seven News and Today Tonight had their strongest night for some weeks, winning all five metro markets.

Today Tonight‘s grocery investigation last night in Sydney hinged on one wrong price and the comparison of a basket of products from Coles five months after a February survey was just 32 cents more expensive, while Woolies basket was $7 less expensive. Like some of the talent in the story, it was a damp squib and almost a dud. It was saved by the wrongly marked packed of lollies. Big deal!

Sunrise beat Today on a holiday Monday morning after losing last week to Nine’s early opener. 6.30 with George Negus had its highest audience so far.

  • FTA: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 29.2% from Ten (3) on 27.5%, Nine (3) was third with 23.5%, the ABC (4) was on 15.3% and SBS (2) was on 4.5%. Seven leads the week on 31.5% from Ten with 26.3% and Nine on 24.2%.
  • Main Channel: Seven won narrowly with 22.3% from Ten on 21.9%, with Nine on 18.2%, ABC 1 was on 12.2% and SBS ONE ended with 4.0%. Seven leads the week with 24.8% from Ten on 20.3% and Nine on 18.0%.
  • Digital: 7TWO won with 4.5%, from Eleven on 3.5%, Gem was on 2.8%, GO was on 2.5%, 7mate was on 2.4%, ONE was on 2.2%, ABC 2 was on 1.9%, ABC 3 and News 24 were on 0.6% each and SBS TWO averaged 0.5%. That’s a total share of FTA viewing last night of 21.5%. 7TWO leads the week on 3.8% from GO and Eleven on 3.3% each.
  • Pay TV: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 24.2%, from Ten (3) on 22.8%, with Nine (3) on 19.5%, Pay TV (100 plus channels) was on 14.5%, the ABC (4 channels) ended with 12.6% and SBS (2) was on 3.7%. The 15 FTA channels had an 85.5% share of TV viewing in primetime. The 10 digital channels had a total share of 17.8% and the five main channels, 67.7%.
  • Regional: Prime/7Qld (3 channels) won with a share of 29.3% from WIN/NBN (3) on 26.1%, SC Ten (3) was on 24.3%, the ABC (4) was on 15.6% and SBS (2) ended with 4.7%. Prime/7Qld won the main channels with 21.0% from WIN/NBN on 26.1% and SC Ten on 18.3%. 7TWO won the digitals with 5.1% from GO on 4.2% and Eleven on 3.8%. The 10 digital channels had a 25.2% share of prime time viewing last night. Prime/7Qld lead the week with 31.3% from WIN/NBN on 25.9%.

Major Markets: Seven won Sydney, Adelaide and Perth from Ten and Nine. Ten won Melbourne and Brisbane from Seven and Nine (Overall and in the main channels). 7TWO won Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Gem won Brisbane. Seven leads Ten and Nine everywhere

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven won All People, 18 to 49s and 25 to 54s. Ten won 16 to 39s. Seven won the digitals and won the regional areas. Seven won all metro markets as well.

The big story from last week was three wins for Today over Sunrise and a win in the week. Today had 347,000 viewers and 343,000 for Sunrise. That is the best week for Today for years.

And 6.30 with George Negus got awfully close to 7.30 on Friday night. 6.30 with George Negus averaged 475,000 on Friday night and 7.30 (the local state editions) averaged 479,000. That’s too close for comfort. For the week 6.30 with George Negus averaged 489,000 whereas 7.30 averaged 552,000.

If anyone is interested, Insiders won the battle of the political chats with 214,000 viewers at 9am on Sunday (177,000 ABC 1, 37,000 on News 24). The Bolt Report averaged 136,000 at 10am and 117,000 at 4.30pm on Ten. Inside Business averaged 146,000 at 10am. Offsiders also did well at 10.30am with 153,000. Meet The Press at 10.30am on Ten averaged 101,000.

On Sunday Night everything was down because of the holiday. Seven won easily and after tonight will be in a position to withstand the impact of Nine’s State of Origin broadcast tomorrow night. Seven’s Downton Abbey averaged 1.528 million and Ten’s MasterChef, 1.349 million. Seven won the night with 34.2% from Nine on 25.0% and Ten with 24.8%. While Seven won the main channels, Ten finished second and Nine third. GO won the digitals.

Last Night: MasterChef nearly topped the 2 million mark for an elimination episode in metro markets. Nationally, it topped 2.5 million with 607,000 people watching in regional areas, on top of the 1.9 million who watched in metro markets. A holiday (not in Perth) Monday night (and wet and windy in Sydney) helped. Tonight Seven will move further ahead.

TONIGHT: Australia’s Got Talent and Winners & Losers on Seven. MasterChef on Ten, plus Bondi Vet. Foreign Correspondent on the ABC, not much on Nine except tiring Sea Patrol. Insight on SBS.
