The Winners: Seven’s night, as it was always going to be. The Block was again very solid at 7pm for Nine.

Home and Away, 998,000. Hawaii not quite as popular as some at Seven might have thought. Do viewers prefer Summer Bay?

SBS’s Go Back To Where You Came From: The Response, 516,000. OK.

Wimbledon averaged 264,000 on 7TWO, more tonight.

The Losers: Nine’s Sea Patrol at 8.30pm, 551,000 in four markets (not Melbourne where the series is out of cynic and 201,000 watched a different episode). So 752,000 all up for the hour for Nine, which is average and third behind Seven and Ten.

News & CA: Nine News and ACA won Sydney and Melbourne, Seven News and TT won the rest. In the morning, Today lost a lot of ground yesterday morning while Sunrise held up.

Foreign Correspondent had a great story on a baby theft and adoption scandal in Spain that is simply staggering as to the size of the extent of the conspiracy between doctors, the Roman Catholic Church and former governments. Around 300,000 babies are said to be involved. A tragic, but stunning story that has had little play in Australia until last night. It was the sort of story that all current affairs programs should aspire to, and very well reported by Philip Williams.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: The Block added more viewers and boosted Nine’s share a bit, but in Perth, the WIN-owned station remains a disaster zone. WIN’s Adelaide Nine affiliate is also weak, but it’s not the ratings black hole that the Perth outlet is. But the night was Seven’s on paper and in reality and the week is decided, again.

Nationally, the most watched programs were a little different than in the metro markets:

  • Australia’s Got Talent averaged 686,000 in regional areas and with the 1.638 million in the metros, moved to Number 1 with a total audience of 2.324 million
  • MasterChef averaged 480,000 in regional areas and 1.688 million in the metros for a national figure of 2.168 million.
  • Winners & Losers averaged 486,000 in regional areas and 1.287 million in the metros for a national audience of 1.773 million.
  • The Block averaged a low 357,000 in regional areas and 1.337 million in the metros for a national audience of 1.694 million.

TONIGHT: Well, Spicks and Specks and Angry Boys on the ABC. The Block on Nine, MasterChef and Offspring on Ten. Criminal Minds on Seven at 8.30pm is fresh, but the rest is fairly average.

All in all, not a good night, except for the tennis when Bernard Tomic plays at Wimbledon, and the Australian Women’s soccer team plays Brazil at around 1.45am Thursday. Go Australia tonight!

Tomic is first up on Court 1 at 10pm AEST against world No.2 Novak Djokovic. If it is still going at 11pm coverage switches to Seven’s main channel.
