The Winners: Nine’s The Block was the only star last night. Seven’s Four Weddings returned with 906,000 viewers, Winners & Losers dominated mid-evening viewing, enabling the very average Dinner Date to average 896,000 and win the 9.30pm slot.

The Losers: A slightly better performance by The Renovators, on a stronger night than Monday, but 812,000 viewers is clearly not enough for Ten. That didn’t help Modern Family, which averaged 774,000 for the first episode on return at 8pm, up to half a million viewers lower than when it was on Sunday nights.

News & CA: Nine News had big wins over Seven News in Sydney and Melbourne: Seven won the rest. ACA had big wins over TT in Sydney and Melbourne (116,000 in Melbourne alone!), but TT won the rest.

Sunrise edged back in front of Today in the morning.

The big mover was 7.30, which had close to 800,000 viewers last night on ABC 1 and News 24 — its biggest audience for weeks.

  • FTA: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 29.2% from Nine (3) on 28.8%, with Ten (3) on 21.2%, the ABC (4) was on 15.6% and SBS (2) ended on 5.2%. Seven leads the week with 27.6% from Nine on 27.1% and Ten on 25.0%.
  • Main Channel: Seven won with 23.2% from Nine on 21.5%, Ten was on 15.2%, ABC 1 was on 12.0% and SBS ONE finished with 4.2%. Seven leads the week with 21.2% from Nine on 20.4% and Ten on 19.2%.
  • Digital: GO won with 4.7% from Eleven on 3.6%, with 7TWO on 3.1%, 7mate was on 2.9%, Gem was on 2.5%, ONE was on 2.4%, ABC 2 was on 1.7%, News 24, 1.0%, SBS TWO, 1.0% and ABC 3 was on 0.9%. That’s a FTA viewing share of 23.8%. GO leads the week with 4.2% from Eleven on 3.6% and 7TWO on 3.4%.
  • Pay TV: Seven (3 channels) won with 24.1%, from Nine (3) on 23.8%, Ten (3) was on 17.5%, pay TV, (200-plus channels) ended with 14.8%, the ABC (4) was on 12.9% and SBS (2) finished with 4.3%. The 15 FTA channels had an 85.2% share of viewing last night. The 10 digitals had a share of 19.8%, the five main channels, 65.4%.
  • Regional: A close night here as well. Prime/7Qld (3 channels) won with a share of 29.0%, from WIN (3) on 28.8%, SC Ten (3) was on 20.2%, the ABC (4) finished with 16.0% and SBS (2) ended with 6.1%. WIN/NBN won the main channels with 22.5%, from Prime/7Qld on 22.4% (close!) and SC Ten back into third on 13.6%. GO won the digitals with 3.7%, with Eleven on 3.6% and 7mate on 3.5% (close as well). The 10 digital channels had a prime-time share of 25.9%. Prime/7Qld leads the week on 29.5% from WIN/NBN on 28.8%.

Major Markets: Nine had a solid night, winning overall and the main channels in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide from Seven and Ten. Seven won Adelaide and Perth overall and in the main channels by big margins from Nine and Ten. GO won the digitals in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and shared Perth with Eleven, which won Brisbane. Nine leads Seven and Ten in Sydney and Melbourne. Seven leads Nine and Ten in Brisbane and Adelaide and leads Ten and Nine in Perth.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven won All People by a close margin from Nine. Nine won the bigger markets of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The two also had a very close battle in the demos, leaving Ten behind. Seven dominated female viewers, Nine, male. Seven won 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s with the strong-female skewing programs.

  • The Block was the only program with a 2 million-plus audience nationally last night. It had 2.015 million viewers, with 560,000 in regional areas and 1.455 million in the five metro markets.
  • Winners & Losers had 1.712 million viewers with 487,000 in the regions and 1.225 million in the metros.

Tonight: The Block on Nine at 7pm, and, dare I mention it, Top Design from 8pm, which is close to the flop of the year. Foreign Correspondent, Spicks and Specks and The Gruen Transfer make the ABC the place to be from 8.30pm. Seven returns World’s Strictest Parents at 7.30pm. Ten returns Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation at 8.30pm after The Renovators.
