The Glenn Dyer take:  Ten finished second to Seven, a good result considering the Tomic v Federer match grabbed the attention of viewers. Because of daylight saving and the time difference, the Tomic match was over early (before 6pm local time) in Perth. Ten would have been pleased its new line up won the night in the west. Nine just wasn’t in the hunt and played its hand accordingly.

Young Talent Time was weak and verged on the saccharine. Like all artificial sweeteners,  it should carry a health warning “Viewing will be dangerous to your brain and self esteem.” If Ten thinks this is going to lead it out of the mire, it will be very much mistaken — it was the weakest of Ten’s new programs last night. The 392,000 for The Project at 6pm wasn’t solid either. Homeland feeds off the usual US paranoia about foreigners and betrayal (24 for example). New Girl is another form of Glee, which was a hit two years ago.

Tonight: More tennis on Seven from 7.30pm, after the return of Home and Away at 7pm. Lleyton Hewitt plays tonight, so another good night for Seven. Ten starts The Biggest Loser Singles. Nine and the ABC are non-watching zones. SBS at least has a fresh Mythbusters at 7.30pm.
