The Glenn Dyer breakdown: The week to Nine after The Voice and the Logies red carpet arrivals amassed viewers last night with an assist from the 8.30pm broadcast of the awards.
The Voice averaged more than 2.1 million in metro markets and over three million nationally, after over 800,000 regional viewers were added in.
So for the first time this year, Nine took a trick from Seven.
Tonight, The Voice goes up against Australia’s Got Talent, with Nine adding The Block to the mix to try and ensure another big win.
Seven’s venerable Dancing With The Stars managed to crack the million viewer mark, but it was crushed by The Voice and the Logies telecast. Poor old Ten was left right out, as expected.
The question is whether this is the start of a revival for Nine?
Viewing on digital channels and Pay TV was cut by the programming on the main channels of Nine and to a lesser extent, Seven last night. The FTA channels had one of their highest viewing shares of the year, attracting more than 72% of all viewers (FTA and Pay). Pay TV’s share of 13.4% was low by its normal Sunday nights.
Last week: Seven won overall, the main and digital channels. Nine won Sydney, Seven won the four other metro markets. It was a quiet, holiday week last week for FTA networks. Not one program topped the 2 million viewer mark nationally.
For Pay TV, the NRL attracted the highest audience on Fox Sports 2 with Many v Penrith watched by 336,000 people, followed by Geelong and Hawthorn on Fox Footy with 335,000 and Carlton v Collingwood with 329,000 people watching.
Tonight: The ABC’s four hours and more of news and current affairs from 7pm. Nine continues The Voice at 8pm for 90 minutes, after the debut of the first episode of the new series of The Block at 7pm. Seven starts Australia’s Got Talent for 90 minutes from 7pm and follows that with Revenge, back after a break last Monday night. Ten has The Biggest Loser and US flops, NCIS Los Angeles and Hawaii Five O.
