The Glenn Dyer breakdown: While The Block, Nine News and 60 Minutes did well, Seven won by having stronger programs over the entirety of prime time. Nine paid the price for not running an episode of The Voice last night. Still it will win tonight and tomorrow with the program.
Nine was weaker than expected in Brisbane. Along with Adelaide and Perth, programs such as The Block do not do quite as well as they do in Melbourne and Sydney.
Nine was let down by The Mentalist at 8.40pm: the 701,000 meant more than 600,000 people disappeared from the network after 60 Minutes (1.353 million for a pretty average episode). Bones on Seven at 8.30pm beat it easily with 1.056 million people. Unforgettable at 9.40pm on Nine averaged 454,000, well behind Seven’s Castle at 9.30pm with 740,000. Once again Nine doesn’t have nearly enough second tier programs capable to winning late night timeslots.
The Biggest Loser on Ten at 6.30 pm, 860,000. Not bad given what was up against it on Seven and Nine. Modern Family and New Girl also did OK in metro areas. But in the regions Ten was just a bit to edgy for viewers and the ABC ended up third in front of Ten.
Inside Business host Alan Kohler should remind himself that the program is recorded on Saturday and broadcast on Sunday, so this week is last week when heard by viewers on a Sunday morning, and next week is actually this week. Small points but they are aggravating to viewers. As host Kohler has to be the lead for the program. He only has to look at the way Barrie Cassidy runs Insiders and Offsiders to see how it is done each week. Since Inside Business went to the couch (cheap) approach, it’s dropped 30,000 viewers and is now beaten regularly by The Bolt Report on Ten. That’s a reversal of the situation for most Sundays in 2011. Yesterday The Bolt Report had 133,000 viewers, Inside Business, 125,000.
Tonight: The Block and The Voice on Nine. Australia’s Got Talent on Seven and Revenge, plus Pictures of You. The hours of news and current affairs on ABC1. Ten is weak (The Biggest Loser and Bondi Rescue are the best), as is SBS. NRL’s Monday night rugby league game is on pay TV.
Nine won last week for a second weekly win, but Seven closed the gap and the only difference between the two networks was The Voice. Nine also won the regional markets.

Metro FTA: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 30.6%, from Nine (3) on 28.9%, Ten (3) was on 20.7%, the ABC (4) ended on 15.4% and SBS (2) finished with 4.4%. Main Channels: Seven won with a share of 24.6% from Nine on 22.4% and Ten with 13.9%.
Metro Digital: Eleven won with a share of 4.2% from GO on 4.0%, 7TWO was on 3.1%, 7mate was on 2.8%, ONE ended on 2.6%, Gem, 2.5%, ABC 2, 2.2%, SBS TWO, 1.0%, News 24, 0.8% and ABC 3, 0.6%. The 10 digital channels had an FTA share last night of 24.8%.
Metro including pay TV: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 25.1%, from Nine (3) on 23.7%, Ten (3) was on 17.0%, pay TV (200-plus channels) was on 15.9%, the ABC (4) ended on 12.7% and SBS (2) finished with 3.6%. The 15 FTA channels had a viewing share in prime tome of 84.1%. The five main channels share was a lowish 64.6%, the 10 digitals share was 19.5%.

- Fox Sports 2 — 3.41%.
- Fox 8 — 3.04%.
- Fox Sports 1 — 2.23%.
- TV 1 — 2.03%.

- AFL: Hawthorn v Sydney (Fox Footy) — 263,000.
- NRL: (Canberra v Cronulla (Fox Sports 2) — 207,000.
- AFL: Adelaide v Port (Fox Footy) — 130,000.
- AFL: Richmond v West Coast (Fox Sports 1) — 163,000.
- Super Rugby: NSW, Crusaders (Fox Sports 2) — 130,000.
Regional: Prime/7Qld (3 channels) won with a share of 30.8%, WIN/NBN (3) was on 28.2%, the ABC (4) was on 18.2%, Ten (3) ended on 17.9% and SBS (2) ended on 5.0%. Prime/7Qld won the main channels with 24.2%, from WIN/NBN on 20.6%, ABC1 was on 14.7% and SC Ten was on a weak 11.5%. GO was the digitals with 4.7%, Eleven was on 3.7%, and 7mate ended on 3.3%. The 10 digital channels had an FTA share of 24.9% last night.
The five most-watched programs in regional markets were:
- Nine News — 662,000.
- Seven News — 651,000.
- The Block — 627,000.
- Dancing with the Stars— 573,000.
- 60 Minutes — 547,000.
Major Metro Markets: Seven beat Nine and Ten (overall and the main channels) in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The Block and Nine News boosted Nine to a win in Melbourne. Eleven won the digitals in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. GO won Brisbane and Adelaide.
