The Glenn Dyer breakdown: A weak night for Seven who probably reckoned they would have done better with Australia’s Got Talent in the line up. It didn’t click with viewers and Nine won. The Block was tops in metro markets with 1.511 million people and 2.119 million nationally, which was a very strong result.
Australia’s Got Talent flopped for Seven last night, 90 minutes from 7.30pm and it could only average a weak 881,000 viewers (1.389 million nationally). Will it join Ten’s The Biggest Loser as a victim of the reality format overkill this year by the networks?
The much hyped Dumb, Drunk and Racist debited on ABC 2 at 9.30pm and averaged 266,000 (387,000 nationally). That’s OK and was the biggest audience for ABC 2 last night. It was the second most watched program on digital TV last night after Neighbours on Eleven with 308,000. It pushed ABC 2 to second among the digital programs in prime time last night.
A week ago last night the second NRL State of Origin game disrupted viewing patterns. The ABC started Nice with Myf Warhurst last week at 8 pm on ABC 1 and it averaged a quite good 503,000. Last night it rose to 597,000 (and 889,000 nationally, which is very good) and deserved more because it’s an interesting program that could have done with tougher production.
Nine won because of very strong showings in Sydney and Melbourne. Nine continues to be weak in Adelaide and especially Perth with The Block and other programs not as popular there as they are in east state markets.
Tonight: NRL and AFL Footy Shows on Nine from 9.30pm. The Block at 7pm. MasterChef from 7pm on Ten. The ABC has Silk on 1. SBS has myriad food programs.
