The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Seven’s night again, Nine was just OK, Ten slipped back as the ABC did better. In its second week out Seven’s cheapie, Surveillance Oz managed a third place in the five metro markets with 1.05 million viewers, but a top rank in regional markets boosted it to national number one with almost 1.6 million viewers from 8 to 8.30 pm. Highway Patrol on Seven at 7.30pm had nearly a million metro and almost 1.5 million viewers, while Criminal Minds at 8.30 pm averaged nearly 950,000 metro viewers and 1.4 million nationally. They offset a weak performance by Seven News in the regional markets and in Melbourne.

In fact Melbourne saw Seven’s 6-7pm woes continue. Nine News won by a massive 161,000 viewers, ACA by 137,000. That’s not a game, it’s a shame. Nine’s Big Brother averaged 895,000 metro and 1.258 million national viewers from 7pm for 90 minutes , Seven’s Home and Away (7-7.30pm) averaged 931,000 metro and 1.382 million national viewers.

Gruen Planet averaged 997,000 metro and nearly 1.4 million national viewers. The Chaser’s The Hamster Wheel averaged 895,000 metro and 1.132 million national viewers in the best of the three episodes so far. More focused and sharper.

At the end of Pie In The Sky on 7TWO around 10.45pm, Channel Seven told us that that was ‘the last Pie In The Sky for this year, it will be back next year’. The network then showed a second episode of Pie In The Sky (a repeat like the first). I rushed to my calendar. Yes, it was still 2012.

Tonight: The new mini Chaser starts on Seven at 9.30pm, making them the only people to have roughly the same show on two networks at the same time. That’s after Beauty and the Geek Australia at 8.30pm. And before that, the unmentionable program “starring” Mrs Brynne Edelstein. ABC1 has Rake. Nine has Big Brother. Ten has two episodes of Law and Order SVU. SBS has its usual foodie program line up with the Two Greedy Italians the highlight.

The Losers: A weak night for Ten as the new Good Wife series got off to a weak fast tracked start from 8.30pm with just 487,000 metro and 648,000 national viewers. Big Fat Gypsy Weddings at 8.30pm on Nine, 619,000 metro and 849,000 national viewers. The two episodes of Last Man Standing on Ten at 7.30pm and 8pm — 521,000 and 450,000 metro viewers (and 647,000 and 574,000 nationally). Randling on ABC1 at 9.35pm, 406,000 metro and 533,000 national viewers. A tragic program. The Price is Right on Seven at 5pm, 260,000 metro and 412,000 national viewers. Even sadder and more tragic to see an old TV warhorse fading away on screen.

Metro News & CA: Seven News again won Sydney (odd that), and had big wins in Brisbane, Adelaide and especially Perth. In Melbourne, though, Seven News was simply tragic. Nine News won 386,000 to 225,000, or a massive 161,000 viewers. ACA won Sydney and Melbourne (by 137,000), TT won the rest, but both are leaking viewers.
