A quiet night last night, except for The Checkout and Janet King on ABC1. Seven won All People, Nine won the demos. Seven also won the regionals. With no more episodes of The Block, Nine had to depend on The Footy Show. Only the ABC1 offerings The Checkout (1.208 million national/ 825,000 metro/ 383,000 regional viewers) and Janet King (1.270 million national/ 820,000 metro/ 450,000 regional viewers) stood out. Seven’s double episodes of Home and Away from 7pm averaged 1.447 million national/ 922,000 metro/ 525,000 regional viewers. It was the standout from 7pm onwards.
From 8pm to 9.30pm, The Checkout and Janet King were the most watched programs last night, which is some achievement — a a big message to the underperforming Ten Network. In fact the ABC dominated the national top 10 with four programs. Seven and Nine had three each. Ten’s main channel shares were 10.6% in the metros and a weak 7.8% in the regions. Nine won Sydney and Melbourne, Seven got up in Brisbane by a small margin, but once again smashed Nine in Adelaide and Perth. The Footy Show (992,000 national/ 706,000 metro/ 286,000 regional viewers), pushed Nine in front in Melbourne. Nine News belted Seven News by 96,000 in Sydney, 173,000 in Melbourne and 59,000 in Brisbane respectively.
In the morning, Nine’s Today (338,000 metro viewers yesterday) continues to improve, with Sunrise still ahead on 351,000 metro viewers. Nationally, Sunrise had 617,000 viewers and Today, 534,000. But the ABC’s News Breakfast has been the real mover this week, with a notable lift with the ending of daylight saving, adding 10,000 to 20,000 viewers on some mornings. Nationally News Breakfast had 211,000 viewers on ABC1 and News 24 yesterday. Ten’s stuttering Wake up (26,000) and Studio 10 (36,000) reverted to type yesterday morning, after a boost earlier in the week.
