Break out the Fanta at Pyrmont — Ten did better in the ratings last night thanks to the final episode of The Biggest Loser,  which had been postponed a week. As a result Ten pushed ahead of the ABC into third spot in metro markets overall, but failed to top ABC1 in the main channels. Seven won the night clearly in metro and regional markets with Nine a distant second without The Block. And in the regions, it was the now usual story with Ten falling far short of the ABC overall and the main channels.

The Biggest Loser’s performance exposed Ten’s ratings woes — The brief Winner Announcement did best with 1.374 million national/ 949,000 metro/ 425,000 regional viewers watching. TheFinal Weigh In had 1.239 million national / 860,000 metro / 379,000 regional viewers. But the lead up to the weigh in could only manage 967,000 national/ 650,000 metro / 317,000 regional viewers. Overall it averaged  1.170 million national/ 816,000 metro/ 354,000 regional viewers. That was of course a big improvement on the rest of the series, but the final was flicked to the first night of the Easter non-ratings break because it would have been swamped by the end ofThe Block on Nine and the finals of My Kitchen Rules on Seven. In the morning we said goodbye to Barrie Cassidy for a while on Insiders, which went out with solid figures of 425,000 viewers nationally. Insiders has easily seen off the challenge (weak as it has been) from The Bolt Report on Ten.

And an update on The Voice. Nine has been shouting the hiring of Kylie Minogue for The Voice to replace Delta Goodrem. Kylie was chosen after she was named as a judge on the UK version of The Voice on the BBC. Well, that only lasted one series. She quit last week saying she’s not available for the 2015 series because the program clashes with her Kiss Me Once tour. The audience for this year’s BBC series fell — including the final which lost 600,000 viewers (from the 2013 final) to 6.6 million viewers on average earlier this month. Kylie quit a week after the final was broadcast. So does that mean Kylie won’t be available for the 2015 series for Nine?
