Seven’s night in metro and regional markets thanks to the dominance of House Rules and the fact that Nine ran dead, probably because it is confident tonight’s second State of Origin rugby league game in Sydney will win big enough to push Nine in front for the rest of the week. Nine ran two repeats of The Big Bang Theory from 7.30pm, then back to back fresh episodes of the network’s star loser of 2014, When Love Comes To Town. For a second night in a row Seven easily beat Nine in metro markets and thrashed it in the regions. House Rules had 2.346 million national/ 1.484 million metro/ 862,000 regional viewers and that was the night.
But Seven’s Winners and Losers (the first episode after House Rules) failed to crack the million metro viewer mark for its return after the brief outing earlier in the year (when it also was surprisingly weak). But it did better in the regions where enough viewers watched to lift it to fourth place nationally. But Seven ran back-to-back episodes, meaning the network is getting rid of it as quickly as possible. The first episode had 1.457 million national / 961,000 metro/ 496,000 regional viewers and the second episode had 1.190 million national/ 820,000 metro/ 370,000 regional viewers. Seven’s A Place To Call Home failed to crack the million viewer mark in metro markets, but was solidly supported by regional viewers. But that support didn’t it save it from Seven’s axe. Will Winners & Losers follow?
MasterChef did sort of OK for Ten with 1.332 million national/ 988,000 metro/ 344,000 regional viewers. The ABC was again weak and is now losing ground. At 6pm, Nine News won Sydney by 84,000, Melbourne by 71,000 and Brisbane by a surprisingly large 99,000 viewers. In the morning another weak performance from Today which can’t seem to escape its own shadow. Sunrise had 346,000 metro viewers, Today, 279,000. Nine’s appalling When Love Comes To Town started at 9pm and averaged 741,000 national/ 502,0009 metro/ 239,000 regional viewers for episode 1 and 651,000 national/ 438,000 metro/ 213,000 regional viewers. That’s a 2014 flop that won’t be back in 2015.
