An easy win for Nine in metro and regional markets thanks to the Thursday night NRL game in Sydney (NSW) and Brisbane (Queensland), which gave the network big metro and regional wins. The 395,000 people who watched the game (between South Sydney and the Brisbane Broncos was easily won by Souths) in Sydney was the biggest audience in any market last night for any program (234,000 watched in Brisbane). Apart from Nine and Seven News, not one program from the rest of the night managed a million or more metro viewers. That tells us how dull the night was.

The ABC and Ten shared third spot in the metros —  in the regionals the ABC was a big third and Ten was fourth. But ABC beat Ten’s main channel easily in the metros, and more so in the regions where Ten’s share fell to 8.6% (for a second night this week) against 12.2% in the metros. The real star was ABC’s Catalyst  — the 8pm science program was the fourth most watched program nationally with 1.301 million viewers. It was the sixth most watched in the metros with 842,000 and third most watched in regional markets with 459,000. Catalyst was the most watched non news program on TV last night.

In the morning, Nine’s Today had another morning with more than 300,000 metro viewers (320,000). But Seven’s Sunrise still won with 363,000. Ten’s Studio 10 saw another weak morning with just 44,000 viewers … it’s been Studio 10’s weakest week for some time.
