Nine’s night in the metro markets but Seven’s in the regions, where its slate of programs (especially The X Factor, the news and Sunday Night) proved a touch more popular than in the big cities. For Ten, it was back to the bad old days with its main channel share in metro markets falling to just 8.9% and even lower in the regions where it finished on 6.8%. It finished well behind the ABC in both metros and the regions.
The Block Glasshouse topped the audience figures with 2.214 million nationally, 1.499 million metro and 715,000 regional viewers. That was a very solid result, boosted by all those room reveals and a Secret Room! (which I suppose is like an “invader” in The Bachelor on Ten this Wednesday, a device to try and boost ratings). In the case of The Block, it’s the Monday to Thursday ratings that seem to need some revving up in this series. Seven’s The X Factor could only average 1.791 million national/ 1.129 million metro/ 662,000 regional viewers for a live performance episode, which is supposed to be the ratings powerhouse of the program. The Block last nightproved more popular in every demographic than The X Factor, even in the 16 to 39 group which is supposed to be where the latter program should find its strongest support.
The ABC’s Anzac Girls shed viewers from last Sunday’s solid debut, but its ratings last night (1.340 million national/ 875,000 metro/ 466,000 regional viewers) were still solid. In the morning, ABC 1’s Insiders popped nicely for Barrie Cassidy’s second morning back from a long break — around 50,000 extra people watched in metro markets alone yesterday morning, compared to the previous month or so. Insiders had just on half a million viewers nationally, including 320,000 in the metro markets on ABC and News 24.
