Seven’s night in the metros and regionals. Dancing With The Stars did the job for Seven, even though it failed to crack the million viewer mark in the metros. Nine did well in the demos because Dancing (1.437 million national viewers) dominated the grey hairs.
The two Whitlam doco episodes (The Power and The Passion) did well — the first had 876,000 national viewers for the first episode and 815,000 for the second. Kitchen Cabinet returned on ABC at 8pm with Bob Hawke. There was a certain poignancy to Annabel Crabb talking to a very old Bob Hawke only hours after we found out about Gough Whitlam’s death.
Ten started Recipe to Riches last night at 7.30pm for a second series of this Woolies-supported program. It had 794,000 national/ 561,000 metro/ 233,000 regional viewers with executive Russel Howcroft in the key role. He will probably help that program as much as he helps Ten. He brings some cred. There was a turn off of 250,000 or so from The Project.
Believe it or not (I couldn’t when I saw it), The Project went to The Bachelor Love Rat story for yet another dip at cheap publicity. But hopefully this is the final attempt to goose the ratings. Last night another exclusive with Blake Garvey’s ex-fiancee Sam Frost and runner-up Lisa Hyde who joined together to bag Mr Rat. But it will be the last, I think I heard Rove McManus end it in a back announce, and Carrie Bickmore seemed to agree … but what happens if there’s a “a little bundle of joy” out there waiting to be shown to viewers of the struggling Ten Network’s “premier” current affairs show? Viewers gave it the thumbs down — 783,000 watched in metro markets compared with just over 1 million for Monday night. Last night’s 7pm episode had 1.047 million viewers, so there was another turnoff after the 1.286 million national audience on Monday night.
