Disappointment at the tennis, joy at soccer’s Asian Cup with two goals by the 2015 sportsman of the year, Tim Cahill. It will be a huge game in Newcastle next week for the semi final against either Japan or the UAE who play their quarter final tonight. The game was watched by a total of just on 1.1 million people on ANC 1 (812,000) and Fox Sports 4 (286,000).
But our Lleyton and Sam Stoser both fell last night at the tennis — Hewitt after being up two sets and giving Seven hopes of a big Saturday night’s coverage. No women in the tournament’s singles side. There are a couple of men left. Seven’s night session attracted a total of 1.439 million (1.298 million on Seven’s main channel and 141,000 on 7TWO). The late session was watched by 696,000 people (603,000 on Seven’s main channel) and 93,000 on 7TWO.
Elsewhere game 32 of the Big Bash tip and run saw the semi finals set, with the final in Canberra next Wednesday night. So at the weekend fourth placed Sydney Sixers play the top-placed Adelaide Strikers and in the second semi, the defending titleholders, the Perth Scorchers play the Melbourne Stars. Last night’s game (won by the Sydney side) was watched by an average 774,000 people across the two sessions.
