Finally a monster of a night for Seven. Not so much for The Beast’s performance (AKA My Kitchen Rules), but for the solid performance by the fresh Criminal Minds straight after which was the third most watched program in prime time, giving Seven a very dominant win in metro and regional markets. My Kitchen Rules had 2.025 million national viewers, Criminal Minds had 1.301 million for the first episode, 897,000 for the second (and that’s why Seven finished so far in front) . The final Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell on ABC at 8.30pm had 945,000 national viewers and was 10th nationally. Understandably the final episode of this series and for this year was a bit self-indulgent, but still great.

The Amazing 90s on Nine at 8.45 pm managed 797,000 national viewers after The Block’s 1.195 million. It was an underwhelming effort. The turn off says it all for a program that was nothing more than the cheapest form of programming: raiding the archives. Like the 70s, who wants to be reminded of the 90s, yet? Tonight, well, this season of Gogglebox Australia ends tonight on Ten (it was on Foxtel last night and attracted 134,000 viewers on LifeStyle). But watch The Checkout at 8pm on ABC, far better TV anyway. Seven has its Sunday night in exile line up (are these program in the naughty corner?) Australia: The Story of Us at 8pm and Downton Abbey at 9pm.
