Nine’s night, end of story, thanks to the boost from the second night of the first Ashes Test. Nine won both metro and regional markets quite easily. Nine lost the main channels, but another solid performance from the cricket on Gem saw it home. I can tell you the Day 2 of the test cricket was pretty dispiriting from around 1 am onwards. Very poor and very bad for sleeping. The three sessions (up to 2am) averaged, 876,000 national viewers for Session 1; 585,000 for session 2 and 207,000 for the third session. Gem’s Perth share of 17.2% was the highest of any channels in the market. Masterchef Australia topped both metro and nationally with 1.538 million viewers.
The AFL game on Seven between Port Adelaide and Collingwood averaged 798,000 on Seven and 7mate and a further 215,000 on Fox Footy for a total audience of 1.013 million viewers. That topped the Test cricket.
